On September 2, 2026, Alibaba's Zvec team said it released zg as open source, a local search tool for developers and AI agents. According to the announcement, it combines semantic search, BM25, hybrid search, and rg, and works with popular agents.
The announcement suggests that engineers building agents may consider a local tool combining search modes; it provides no evaluations or comparative results. To consult or apply the tool, check the original announcement and code, confirm the stated search modes and compatibility, and run your own tests. If you use AI to study or adapt the material, avoid putting personal data or confidential documents in prompts.
